Baseball Game Preview: San Diego Vaqueros vs. Hebbronville Longhorns

San Diego is 1-9 against Hebbronville since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The San Diego Vaqueros are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will square off against the Hebbronville Longhorns at 2:00 p.m. San Diego's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Hebbronville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

San Diego barely beat King the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. San Diego was the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over King on Tuesday.

Angel Bowen made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base.

In other batting news, Jayson Garcia was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brian Ramirez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

San Diego always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Hebbronville won against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on Friday with three runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Hebbronville beat Cigarroa by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.

Hebbronville's record now sits at 2-4. As for San Diego, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

San Diego came up short against Hebbronville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 9-4. Can San Diego avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
