Basketball Recap: Hampton Roads Academy Navigators vs. Catholic Crusaders
Hampton Roads Academy lost against Catholic back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hampton Roads Academy Navigators had to suffer through a 56-27 loss at the hands of the Catholic Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Navigators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 254th, while the Crusaders are ranked 29th).
Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashton Walker out in front who went 8 for 15 en route to 17 points and three steals. Walker's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Mallette, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and four steals.
Hampton Roads Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Catholic, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-8.
Hampton Roads Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-38 victory against Grove Christian School on the 31st. As for Catholic, they will square off against Atlantic Shores Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Atlantic Shores Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Catholic likes a good challenge.
