Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Washington Academy

Washington Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Central Red Devils. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 1-0 back in April.

Bella Cirone made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Dennison, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. Hayden Look also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Washington Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Central, they moved to 4-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
