Baseball Game Preview: Gig Harbor Tides vs. Lakes Lancers

The Gig Harbor Tides will head out to take on the Lakes Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gig Harbor is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

If Gig Harbor beats Lakes with 11 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went the Tides' way against Mount Tahoma on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The Tides might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Gig Harbor got a great performance from Logan Pedersen as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Pedersen a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Jayce Corley and Ethan Mar did most of the damage at the plate: Corley scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Mar scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Corley also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Greyson Riley, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Gig Harbor hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Tahoma struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Lakes came up short against Peninsula on Tuesday, falling 8-1. The Lancers haven't had much luck with the Seahawks recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Gig Harbor's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lakes, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Lakes' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gig Harbor hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355.
