Baseball Recap: Gulfport Triumphs

Gulfport gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Grenada Chargers 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Admirals.

Tolar Raybourn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Raybourn was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other pitching news, Thomas Stennis looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, James Van Slyke was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Gulfport's record now sits at 6-4. As for Grenada, they dropped their record down to 7-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Gulfport will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Clinton at 7:30 p.m. As for Grenada, they will face off against Hernando at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
