Volleyball Recap: Slippery Rock Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Slippery Rock had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Conneaut Area Eagles on Tuesday.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Slippery Rock who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-27, 15-13.

Leading Slippery Rock to victory were Lyla Runtas and Lexi Plesakov. Runtas had 11 digs and three assists, while Plesakov had eight digs. That's the most assists Runtas has posted since back in September of 2024.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Slippery Rock will venture away from home to take on Mohawk Area at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Conneaut Area, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Eisenhower at 6:00 p.m. on October 2.
