Baseball Recap: Rockbridge Academy Wins Going Away Against Covenant Life

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Harford Christian, Rockbridge Academy was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Covenant Life Cougars with a sharp 15-3 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Scots' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

John Ault and Will Schingeck made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Ault pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Schingeck struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Ault has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Ault went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Schingeck went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Rockbridge Academy is undefeated when Schingeck posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Evan Tessneer was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Parlette, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Rockbridge Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory got Rockbridge Academy back to even at 4-4. As for Covenant Life, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rockbridge Academy will square off against Greater Grace Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Covenant Life, they will challenge Perry Hall Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
