Baseball Recap: Byers Extends Winning Streak to Three

Byers waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Calhan a 20-0 shutout. Byers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.

Jack Earl made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Earl was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Earl is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Byers let Garret Crecelius and Marshall Hacker run wild. Crecelius scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Hacker scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Hacker is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Kaden Bennett was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Byers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Byers' record is now 3-1. As for Calhan, their loss was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3-2.

Byers wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 10-0 victory against Burlington on the 28th. As for Calhan, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-7 defeat against Evangel Christian Academy on the 1st.
