 After losing to Rancho Cotate the last time they met, Maria Carrillo decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Maria Carrillo Pumas came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rancho Cotate Cougars  on Friday and snuck past  6-5.
  Tommy McPhee was a major factor no matter where he played. He  struck out eight batters over  6.2 innings while giving up just two earned  (and three unearned) runs off   11  hits. McPhee has been consistent recently: he hasn't  pitched less than six  innings in three consecutive pitching appearances.  In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Cooper Bluestone, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 1-for-3.
 On Rancho Cotate's side,  Jaren Brown was cooking despite his team's loss,   scoring a  run while going 3-for-4.  Stephen Scott was another key contributor,  scoring two  runs while going 3-for-4.
 Maria Carrillo's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Rancho Cotate, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maria Carrillo will  take on Cardinal Newman at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. Cardinal Newman will roll in looking for their  fourth straight  win, something Maria Carrillo surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rancho Cotate, they will head out on the road to  face off against  Analy at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. Analy is coming into the  game with four straight  victories at home,  so Rancho Cotate will have to stop a  squad with plenty of momentum.
