Baseball Recap: Cathedral Catholic Comes Up Short

After soaring to ten runs the game before, Cathedral Catholic was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They came up short against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks, falling 8-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Dons have suffered against the Mavericks since April 2, 2015.

Cathedral Catholic got a good showing from Travis Ridgway, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Ridgway has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Cathedral Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Harrington, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Cathedral Catholic moved to 6-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for La Costa Canyon, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-4.

Looking ahead, Cathedral Catholic will venture away from home to face off against Rancho Bernardo at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for La Costa Canyon, they are taking a road trip to take on Point Loma at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pointers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Mavericks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
