Softball Recap: Copper Canyon Takes a Loss

After flying high against Central last Wednesday, Copper Canyon came back down to earth. Copper Canyon fell just short of the Independence Patriots by a score of 10-9 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Aztecs of the 16-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Ellecia Gonzales and Goldie Chambers stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gonzales scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Chambers went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Gonzales a new career-high. Nevaeh Aldana also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Copper Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Independence, the win keeps they at an undefeated 4-0.

While Copper Canyon had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
