Basketball Recap: South Paulding Comes Up Short

If South Paulding was feeling good fresh off their 92-61 takedown of East Paulding last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Paulding Spartans took a 79-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Alexander Cougars on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Cougars are ranked 22nd).

Alexander got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Donovin Martin out in front who went 7 for 9 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gregory Dunson, who made all 5 shots he took for 13 points.

South Paulding has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Alexander, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2.

South Paulding has already played their next contest, a 71-54 victory against Kennesaw Mountain on the 10th. As for Alexander, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-58 defeat against Holy Innocents Episcopal on the 7th.
