Softball Game Preview: Roy Royals vs. Clearfield Falcons

Roy hasn't had much luck against Clearfield recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Royals will challenge the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. Roy has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Roy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against West Field on Thursday. They came up short against the Longhorns, falling 22-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Royals were not able to get on the board.

Clearfield came out on top against Northridge on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Falcons blew past the Knights 13-1. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Hannah Hensley spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brynn Nicholls, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Leonhardt, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Clearfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northridge only posted a batting average of .320.

Roy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Clearfield, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-5.

Roy might still be hurting after the 19-5 loss they got from Clearfield when the teams last played back in March. Can the Royals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
