Baseball Preview: Maxwell Panthers vs. Etna Lions

The Maxwell Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Etna Lions at 2:00 p.m. in Tuesday's first game. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Maxwell waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Yellowjackets 22-2.

Yahir Alcaraz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Alcaraz was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Maxwell got a big performance out of Vincent Orozco, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Alex Krug was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Etna got themselves on the board against Weed in Friday's second game, but Weed never followed suit. Everything went their way against the Cougars as they made off with a 10-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for Etna who now have four in a row.

Etna got a big performance out of Kyle Fowle, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Hubbard, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Maxwell's record is now 14-4. As for Etna, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart in Tuesday's first game as both teams have some strikeout artists on the roster. Maxwell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Etna struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Maxwell suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Etna when the teams last played back in March of 2017. Can Maxwell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
