Baseball Recap: Augusta Comes Up Short

Augusta had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it six. They fell 7-4 to the Buhler Crusaders. The Orioles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Crusaders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Dalton Apel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Buhler, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.

On Buhler's side, Nixon Standlee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Dylan Scripsick and Mitchel McDaniel did most of the damage at the plate: Scripsick went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while McDaniel went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was McDaniel's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Carson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Buhler beat Augusta by a score of 14-4 later that day.
