Basketball Recap: West Orange Comes Up Short

While it was all tied up 25-25 at halftime, West Orange was not quite University's equal in the second half on Wednesday. They received a blow as they fell 59-45 to the University Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Cougars are ranked 117th).

University had a senior duo take command as Hudson Maurer went 6 of 12 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds and Mo Kamara dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. What's more, Kamara also racked up four steals, the most he's had since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Levi Hubbard, who posted seven points and three steals.

West Orange has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for University, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

West Orange has already played their next game, a 90-59 defeat against Foundation Academy on the 30th. As for University, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 81-46 victory against Horizon on the 31st.
