Softball Recap: Fenton Wins Going Away Against Lake Orion

Fenton lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lake Orion, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Tigers blew past the Dragons 9-3 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Abby Golen made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Fenton got a massive performance out of Taryn Craven, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Craven has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Izzy MacCaughan, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Fenton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Fenton's record now sits at 7-1-1. As for Lake Orion, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4.

Fenton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-1 victory against Flushing on the 24th. As for Lake Orion, they will be playing at home against Algonac at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Muskrats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
