Softball Game Recap: Kentwood Conquerors vs. Auburn Trojans

Kentwood had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Auburn on Tuesday. The Conquerors' pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans an 11-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Conquerors in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won four in a row.

Gabby Greenwood made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and two triples. Those triples were her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendyl Toeaina, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season. Sofia Mottern Salinas was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Kentwood picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Auburn, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Kentwood will challenge Kennedy Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Conquerors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
