Softball Game Preview: Midland Christian Mustangs vs. Odessa Bronchos

The Midland Christian Mustangs will face off against the Odessa Bronchos at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Midland Christian had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Pecos on Friday. Midland Christian blew past Pecos 11-2. Considering the Mustangs have won five games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddy Munoz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Midland Christian got a massive performance out of Marisela Hernandez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Hernandez has posted since back in April of 2024. Kyler Graham was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2.

Midland Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in eight consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Odessa beat Alpine 11-8 on Saturday. Considering the Bronchos' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Midland Christian's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Odessa, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
