Basketball Recap: Baker's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Tuesday

Baker hadn't done well against Central recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Baker Gators came out on top against the Central Jaguars by a score of 56-45. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Jaguars are ranked 409th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

AJ Chilton was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 10 on his way to 19 points. Cole Hardin was another key player, putting up nine points.

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Carson Baxley, who posted 13 points and five steals. Baxley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Ellison, who put up eight points and three steals.

Baker's record now sits at 5-1. As for Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Baker wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-39 victory against Kinston on the 12th. As for Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-37 win against Flomaton on the 12th.
