Softball Recap: Red Bluff Takes a Loss

Red Bluff lost against Chico back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Spartans fell 6-2 to the Panthers.

Mattison Kwarta was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Kwarta wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Newport, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Red Bluff's loss dropped their record down to 9-9-1. As for Chico, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Red Bluff will venture away from home to take on Foothill at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Chico, they will square off against Pleasant Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
