Baseball Recap: Great Oak Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Great Oak won the last time they faced Murrieta Valley and things went their way on Friday too. The Wolfpack blew past the Nighthawks 11-1. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Wolfpack this season.

Roy Kim looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Great Oak is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Great Oak's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Reagan Ricken, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Ricken has posted since back in April of 2024. Jaxon Valenzuela was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Great Oak's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-10. As for Murrieta Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Great Oak and Murrieta Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Wolfpack (ranked 222nd) will meet Vista Murrieta (ranked 33rd) at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Murrieta Valley will challenge Murrieta Mesa at 3:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (574 vs. 112).
