Recap: Block Island vs. Johnston Panthers
Block Island lost against the Johnston Panthers back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Block Island took a 35-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Johnston. Block Island has struggled against Johnston recently, as their game on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Block Island's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haley Conant, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Conant has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cora Ryan, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Johnston got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Annabella Gesualdi out in front who scored 18 points. Jayanah Rollins was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Block Island's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Johnston, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
Block Island will be playing in front of their home fans against Times Squared Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Block Island is facing Times Squared Academy at the right time seeing as Times Squared Academy is stuck on a 11-game losing streak. As for Johnston, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Providence Country Day at 6:00 p.m.
