Football Game Preview: Itasca Wampus Cats vs. Rio Vista Eagles

Itasca hasn't had much luck against Rio Vista recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wampus Cats will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m.

Itasca is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Valley Mills on Friday. The Wampus Cats were just a hair shy of victory and fell 22-21 to the Eagles. On the bright side, the 21- point effort marked the Wampus Cats' highest-scoring contest to date.

Meanwhile, Rio Vista narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Bosqueville 39-37. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Rio Vista's win came from a few key players Itasca will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Pryce Elms, who picked up 68 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 49 yards and one TD. Kaiden Scott was another key player, throwing for 277 yards and three TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes.

Rio Vista's record now sits at 5-1. As for Itasca, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Itasca was dealt a bruising 34-7 loss at the hands of Rio Vista when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Wampus Cats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
