Basketball Recap: Chincoteague Falls Despite Big Games from Matthew Taylor and Camaury Davis

After flying high against Salisbury Christian last Wednesday, Chincoteague came back down to earth. The Chincoteague Ponies lost to the Nandua Warriors at home by a 70-54 margin on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Ponies in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost eight in a row.

Camaury Davis and Matthew Taylor certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Davis posted 18 points, while Taylor had five points and eight rebounds. Davis is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games.

Nandua's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cody Ragone led the charge by going 5 for 7 on his way to 11 points along with five boards and four steals. Ragone is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Northan, who earned 12 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Chincoteague's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Nandua, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6.

Chincoteague didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 71-45 loss against Northampton on the 4th. As for Nandua, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 76-54 win against Salisbury Christian on the 31st.
