Softball Recap: Pelahatchie Chiefs vs. Loyd Star Hornets

Pelahatchie had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 11-8 to make it four. They lost 8-0 to the Loyd Star Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-4 on Friday.

As for Loyd Star, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

For Loyd Star's part, the result came thanks to Layla Burt's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks. Burt has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddie Kate Britt, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Xia Townsend was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
