Softball Recap: Calera Eagles vs. Hillcrest Patriots
Calera came tearing into Monday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hillcrest Patriots and snuck past 2-1. This was payback for Calera, who suffered a 6-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Kate Townley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Townley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive pitching appearances. Townley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
Townley wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Armiya Shamburger, who went 1-for-2 with a stolen base.
