Basketball Game Preview: Austin Panthers vs. Galeton Tigers

Austin and Galeton are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Austin Panthers face off against the Galeton Tigers at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Austin and eight for Galeton.

Austin is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Cameron County on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Austin was dealt a 79-28 loss at the hands of Cameron County. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-18.

Meanwhile, Galeton came up short against Williamson on Monday and fell 60-50.

Despite the defeat, Galeton saw an underclassman step up: freshman TREY SYKORA went 7 for 12 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds. SYKORA is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Braden WARD was another key player, putting up eight points and six steals.

Austin's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Galeton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

Austin couldn't quite finish off Galeton when the teams last played back in December of 2024 and fell 44-41. Can Austin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
