Softball Recap: Nathan Hale Find Success

Nathan Hale's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Chief Sealth Seahawks a 21-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now won seven in a row.

Ellen Belknap was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Ainslie Smith and Kalea Sowers did most of the damage at the plate: Smith got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Sowers went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Sowers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caitlin Low, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Nathan Hale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.

Nathan Hale's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Chief Sealth, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
