Baseball Game Preview: Ocean Lakes Dolphins vs. Cox Falcons

Ocean Lakes hasn't had much luck against Cox recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Dolphins will take on the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Ocean Lakes 2.4, Cox 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Ocean Lakes is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past Kempsville 13-3. Considering the Dolphins have won 14 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Daniel Hamilton looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ryan Gocio was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brady Nagle, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Ocean Lakes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kempsville only posted a batting average of .273.

Meanwhile, Cox faced Great Bridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Falcons won by a run and slipped past the Wildcats 2-1. Winning may never get old, but the Falcons sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Ocean Lakes is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Cox, they pushed their record up to 20-3 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
