Sonora extended their winning streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Friday, bumping them up to 5-0. They really took it to the Escalon Cougars for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-14 win. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than 34 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sonora's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brody Speer led the charge by rushing for 54 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Speer was even better on defense, making nine total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defending two passes. Steven Morfoot made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Sonora didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Escalon to a completion percentage of just 48.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Speer, Morfoot, and Isaac Hudson, who each logged two passes deflected. Sonora wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 100%.

Sonora didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Morfoot and Jeremy Snyder. Morfoot got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

As for Escalon, they now have a losing record of 2-3. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while Sonora is ranked 75th).

Despite the loss, Escalon still got an impressive performance from Dylan Ball, who rushed for 68 yards on only five carries, and also picked up 53 receiving yards.
