Softball Game Preview: Pearce Mustangs vs. MacArthur Cardinals

The Pearce Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the MacArthur Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Pearce's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Pearce and Lake Highlands have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Saturday. Pearce put the hurt on Lake Highlands with a sharp 22-0 win. The Mustangs' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

The team relied heavily on Emma Willers, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexa Falk, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Pearce kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.8.

Meanwhile, MacArthur had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out Berkner 9-8.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-11-1. As for Pearce, their record is now 8-12-1.

Everything went Pearce's way against MacArthur when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Pearce made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pearce since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
