Baseball Game Preview: Gila Ridge Hawks vs. San Luis Sidewinders

Gila Ridge hasn't had much luck against San Luis recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Hawks will take on the Sidewinders at 3:45 p.m.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Gila Ridge's offense. They came up short against Mountain Ridge on Thursday, falling 10-0. The Hawks' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Luis, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Mesa 14-1 on Tuesday. The Sidewinders not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 12, 2024 (when they won 16-1).

Juan Pablo Chavez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlos Gonzales, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for San Luis: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Rodolfo Acosta, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.

San Luis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

San Luis has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Gila Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 3-18.

Gila Ridge couldn't quite get it done against San Luis in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
