Softball Game Recap: Valmeyer Pirates vs. Steeleville Warriors

Valmeyer extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-0 to the Steeleville Warriors, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Pirates fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Warriors since on Tuesday.

As for Steeleville, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

For Steeleville's part, Corinne Mueller made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, Mueller is now averaging an impressive 5.8 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Gabi Hood was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoey Wolf, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Steeleville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-4 loss against Sparta on the 7th. Hopefully Valmeyer paid attention to the Warriors' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
