Volleyball Game Preview: Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks vs. Lutheran Lions

The Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks will face off against the Lutheran Lions at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cheyenne Mountain hadn't beaten Fountain-Fort Carson on the road since March 30, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Red-Tailed Hawks were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Trojans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red-Tailed Hawks.

Cheyenne Mountain never let Fountain-Fort Carson on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-20.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lutheran, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Sand Creek by a score of 3-1 on Thursday.

While Lutheran might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Sand Creek scored at least 19 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 25-21.

Cheyenne Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Cheyenne Mountain has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Cheyenne Mountain came out on top in a nail-biter against Lutheran in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Red-Tailed Hawks repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
