Softball Recap: Nichols Comes Up Short

Nichols came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-6 to the Mount Mercy Academy Magic. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Magic apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Reyes Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and 11 unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Ellery Jaworowicz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Brynn Bacak was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Nichols' defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Mount Mercy Academy, their record is now 5-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nichols will challenge St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Lancers have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for Mount Mercy Academy, they will take on Nardin Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
