Baseball Recap: Lake Catholic Victorious

It was a proper cat-fight when Lake Catholic took on Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Monday. The Cougars skirted past the Lions 5-3. Five seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Ben Mitchell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Mitchell wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Quinn Stayer, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Lake Catholic and bumps their season record up to 13-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-9.

Lake Catholic will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
