Soquel has gone 8-2 against Harbor recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Knights will square off against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Soquel has four straight wins, Harbor has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Soquel's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over San Lorenzo Valley.
San Lorenzo Valley's batters probably weren't too happy with Kiyomi Dunlap, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (she gave up a single walk). Dunlap has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ellie Howell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Sophia Kilby was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Harbor started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Aptos. They lost 13-3 to the Mariners on Thursday.
Addysin Schaefer was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Monroe, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Soquel's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Harbor, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Harbor's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Soquel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Harbor, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Soquel keep running through batters, or will the Pirates buck the trend?
Everything went Soquel's way against Harbor in their previous meeting back in March, as Soquel made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
