Soccer Game Preview: Whetstone vs. Marysville

The Whetstone Braves are taking a road trip to challenge the Marysville Monarchs at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Marysville took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Whetstone, who comes in off a win.

On Monday, Whetstone beat Walnut Ridge 3-1. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Whetstone's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio soccer rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Walnut Ridge are ranked 433rd).

Whetstone hit Walnut Ridge with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Rian Hashemi, Jules Higgins, and Calvin Carter.

Meanwhile, Marysville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Olentangy Berlin, falling 4-0.

Whetstone is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those nine matchups. As for Marysville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8-4.

Whetstone might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Marysville in their previous meeting back in August of 2023. Can the Braves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
