Basketball Recap: John Paul II Takes a Loss

John Paul II lost against Geneva back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The John Paul II Guardians took a blow against the Geneva Eagles, falling 88-60. While losing is never fun, the Guardians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1204th, while the Eagles are ranked 218th).

When it comes to explaining why John Paul II lost, don't look at Dj Miller. Despite the final result, he went 17 for 32 on his way to 42 points and six steals. Miller has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Velazquez, who posted six points.

John Paul II has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Geneva, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

John Paul II will face off against The Christian School at Castle Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Geneva, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Holy Cross' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
