Baseball Game Preview: Mattawan Wildcats vs. Chippewa Valley Big Reds

The Mattawan Wildcats will square off against the Chippewa Valley Big Reds at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mattawan's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Chippewa Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Mattawan is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Michigan's top teams: Dakota, who was ranked second at the time (Mattawan was ranked 12th). The Wildcats wound up with the same score they had in their last game (6-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Their defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Mattawan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Troy Scarff, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Chippewa Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Rockford on Friday, taking the game 5-1.

Lukas Palazzola tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Mattawan's loss dropped their record down to 22-4-4. As for Chippewa Valley, their win bumped their record up to 15-11-2.
