Football Recap: John Carroll's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

The matchup between John Carroll and Pallotti on Friday hardly resembled the 6-3 effort from their previous meeting. The Patriots took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Patriots, who until this matchup were averaging 13.43 points allowed.

John Carroll's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony J Modeste, who threw for 228 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in one rushing score. Carson Shoffner helped J Modeste out on the ground, rushing for 111 yards and one TD, while also picking up 76 receiving yards.

John Carroll didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Shoffner and Nick Bel Bruno. Shoffner's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 106 rushing yards.

Clement Boti was nothing short of spectacular for Pallotti: he rushed for 172 yards while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Those 172 rushing yards gave Boti a new career-high. Pallotti also got help from Kareem Fisher, who showed off his sure hands for 92 receiving yards.

With the defeat, John Carroll broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2. As for Pallotti, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-5 record this season.

John Carroll has already played their next game, a 35-14 loss against Boys Latin on the 17th. As for Pallotti, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 50-12 win against St. John's Catholic Prep on the 17th.
