Basketball Recap: Saltillo Now 9-2 over Last 11 Games

Saltillo won the last time they faced South Panola and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Saltillo Tigers walked away with a 67-58 victory over the South Panola Tigers. Given Saltillo's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while South Panola is ranked 177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Saltillo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Crayden Shannon, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 21 points. Shannon's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Conner Howell, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

Saltillo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Saltillo is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for South Panola, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16.

Coincidentally, Saltillo and South Panola will both be playing Grenada the next time they take the court. South Panola will host Grenada at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Saltillo will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
