Preview: Discovery Canyon Thunder vs. Thompson Valley Eagles
The Discovery Canyon Thunder are on the road again on Friday and play against the Thompson Valley Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Discovery Canyon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Thompson Valley likes a good challenge.
Discovery Canyon stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Sand Creek, posting a 54-21 win on the road.
Discovery Canyon can attribute much of their success to Hayden Jones, who threw for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only six passes, and Jacob Yousif, who rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Tyler Peters was in the mix too, providing Discovery Canyon with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Thompson Valley came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 21-14 win over Resurrection Christian.
Thompson Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Suarez, who rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Suarez hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Garet Hendrickson, who picked up 108 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Discovery Canyon's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.0 points per game. As for Thompson Valley, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Discovery Canyon has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 254.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Thompson Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 195.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
