Recap: American Leadership Academy - Anthem South Titans vs. Coolidge Bears
The American Leadership Academy - Anthem South Titans suffered their biggest defeat since November 21, 2023 on Friday. They were dealt a 70-12 defeat at the hands of Coolidge. While losing is never fun, American Leadership Academy - Anthem South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while Coolidge is ranked 103rd).
Despite the loss, American Leadership Academy - Anthem South still got an impressive performance from Logan Nadratowski, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, American Leadership Academy - Anthem South struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Coolidge racked up 19 assists.
Coolidge was led to victory by Tory Gholston and Ja'kwan Jordan. Gholston scored 15 points along with seven assists and two steals, while Jordan scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Jordan hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelshawn Dixon-Wright, who scored eight points along with three steals.
American Leadership Academy - Anthem South bumped their record down to 3-14 with that loss, which was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.7 points per game. As for Coolidge, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. American Leadership Academy - Anthem South will face off against Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Valley Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 matches -- so hopefully American Leadership Academy - Anthem South likes a good challenge. As for Coolidge, they will head out on the road to challenge Gilbert Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Gilbert Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
