Basketball Game Preview: Lowndes Vikings vs. Tift County Blue Devils

The Lowndes Vikings will head out to challenge the Tift County Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lowndes is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season.

Last Monday, Lowndes slipped by Mount Vernon 43-42. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Among those leading the charge was Kam Jackson, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden Brown, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

Lowndes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 48-20 stomp they got against Cook. The game marked the Blue Devils' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Tift County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Lowndes, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Lowndes beat Tift County 53-42 when the teams last played back in January of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lowndes since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
