Softball Recap: Sacred Heart Academy Find Success

Sacred Heart Academy was handed a 15-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Nichols Vikings 3-2. The Sharks haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Emma Popp made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Evelyn Smyers was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Sacred Heart Academy's record now sits at 4-6. As for Nichols, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-3 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Vikings beat Sacred Heart Academy by a score of 3-1 later that day.
