Baseball Recap: Mishawaka Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Mishawaka, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the NorthWood Panthers on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Mishawaka got a great performance from Drew Ginter as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Gage Spychalski was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Shawn Nowacki was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Mishawaka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Mishawaka's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for NorthWood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-9.

Looking ahead, Mishawaka will square off against Elkhart at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cavemen 3.5, the Lions 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for NorthWood, they will take on Plymouth at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
