Basketball Recap: Southwestern Takes a Loss

After flying high against South Dearborn last Saturday, Southwestern came back down to earth. The Southwestern Rebels were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 55-54 to the South Ripley Raiders. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Southwestern still got an impressive performance from Landon Kidwell, who went 9 for 10 on his way to 20 points. Kidwell is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Braxton Lewis, who went 5 of 10 to rack up 16 points.

Southwestern's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 13-4. As for South Ripley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.

Southwestern and South Ripley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Southwestern (ranked 77th) will meet Rising Sun (ranked 406th) at 7:30 p.m. on February 14th. Southwestern is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Meanwhile, South Ripley will challenge South Dearborn at 7:30 p.m. on February 14th up 117 places (34 vs. 151).
