Recap: Liberty Minutemen vs. Magna Vista Warriors

It was a good run, but the Liberty Minutemen unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They were the victim of a tough 49-28 loss at the hands of Magna Vista. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Liberty has scored all season.

Liberty's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shania Brown, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was Brown's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Taniesha Brown was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 12 rebounds.

Liberty struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Liberty's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-1. As for Magna Vista, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Liberty Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Liberty Christian is on a three-game streak of home wins, Liberty a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Magna Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against Mecklenburg County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mecklenburg County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 195th, while Magna Vista is ranked 34th).
